Getting married at Pembroke Lodge - what you can expect
There are two delightful Pembroke Lodge marriage ceremony rooms to choose from, each special in their own way.
The Belvedere, which is the larger and the more contemporary of the two and The Russell Suite, which is more intimate and comes with original Georgian features. Here is a little more detail on these rooms.
Belvedere wedding photography
The Belvedere is situated on the ground floor at the back of Pembroke Lodge and seats up to 140 guests for the marriage ceremony and wedding breakfast and can accommodate up to 200 guests for the evening celebrations.
Purpose-built, it has plenty of natural light from the terrace window which allows for intimate photo opportunities during the ceremony. After walking down the aisle as husband and wife, usually through a shower of confetti or bubbles, the happy newlywed's exit onto the welcoming terrace for celebratory drinks and canapés.
Guests here can enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and stunning views and it provides plenty of scope for some informal and relaxed reportage photography style coverage.
In the warmer months, there is also the option to have your ceremony out on the Belvedere Terrace complete with those beautiful backdrops, always a popular option for guests and photographers alike, offering extra space and plenty of view points.
During the speeches there is space to walk around taking pictures and a heaving dance floor provides plenty of action photos of everyone having fun.
Russell Suite wedding photography
The Russell Suite is situated on the first floor of the Georgian Wing of Pembroke Lodge and is perfect for more smaller occasions with a capacity of up to 70 guests.
The marriage ceremony and wedding breakfast are held in the Lord John Russell Room which is blessed with natural light from two sides. During the service the couple face a large bay window which provides the opportunity for lots of well lit, intimate pictures.
There is also the option to have your ceremony out in the lovely Woodland Garden with its verdant backdrop and the atmospheric shot of the bride walking down the aisle from the main building.
During the room turnaround, guests can venture outside to the picturesque South Lawn and Woodland Garden for drinks and canapés complete with an outside bar, which again provides some nice reportage photo opportunities.
If you want to stay indoors, there is exclusive access to the adjoining Bertrand Russell Rooms and bar, a relaxing, tranquil space with views over the Thames Valley.
Guests return again to the Russell Suite for the evening celebrations in The Phantom Room with music and wild dancing and more fun packed pictures.

A Pembroke Lodge wedding photographer's perspective
What makes Pembroke Lodge such a great venue and one that I love returning to is its unique and wonderful location. Beautiful flower filled gardens, verdant backdrops and stunning views give you endless photographic opportunities. Then add in then fascinating history and you have a very special Surrey wedding venue.
From a Surrey Mole Catcher's Cottage...
Starting life in the 1750s as The Lodge, a single-room cottage inhabited by a mole catcher, it was later enlarged and renamed Hill Lodge and granted to the Duchess of Pembroke in 1787 who added a Georgian wing to it.
...To a National Prime Minister's Office
In 1847 it was passed onto the then Prime Minister Lord John Russell who used it to conduct business affairs and entertain writers such as Dickens, Thackeray, Tennyson, and Longfellow. Later it became the home of the famous philosopher and mathematician, Bertrand Russell who grew up there between 1876 and 1894.
During the 2nd World War, it became a Regimental HQ, then a government-run tea room until in 1997 it was taken over by The Hearsum family. Along with comprehensive restoration work, the family also started collecting thousands of fascinating artifacts connected with Pembroke Lodge and Richmond Park.
Today, in addition to its popular tea-rooms, the well established Pembroke Lodge wedding venue is a highly regarded and much sought after place for couples to get married at.
Surrey Woodland to The Thames Valley
Walking alongside the large formal South Lawn complete with borders of bright coloured flowers, passing the delightful and welcoming Woodland Garden and around to the Belvedere Terrace with its wonderful views over the Thames Valley... a truly memorable experience for newly married couples.
Beautiful Flowers and Surrey Views
Then out along the drive takes you past borders bursting with colour, green lawns and over to the beautifully heavy scented rose arbour, combining a riot of colour with a calm and peaceful haven to sit and relax amongst nature. Then on past bold and colourful formal flower beds, with wonderful views over Surrey and London. All perfect opportunities for some truly romantic and memorable photographs.
If there's time you can also pop over to the romantic John Beer Laburnum Walk and up to the popular Kings Mound for some stunning views over London including St Paul’s Cathedral.
On the way back, looking down into the dense Richmond Park you may catch some passing deer and if you fancy a walk on the wild side, you can descend into the untamed ferns and long grass for even more photo opportunities.

Pembroke Lodge wedding photographer questions...
Pembroke Lodge map and useful travel information
If you are travelling by car then there is free parking for 300 vehicles and I have never had a problem parking, though it can get very busy on a summer's day so allow for a little extra time
Bear in mind that all the gates close after dark so if you are driving after the event then you need to make sure you leave via the Richmond Gate which is manned by Pembroke Lodge staff. If you decide to leave your car there overnight then all you need to do is display a parking permit available from the bar to avoid receiving a parking ticket.
Pembroke Lodge don't recommned that you walk though the park after dark as the roads are not lit and wild deer raom freely.
Take a look at the map below to see its location and surroundings

"Richard you have a lovely way of making people feel at ease, and many of our guests commented on this"

Tina
Having been a professional, full-time wedding photographer for over twelve years, Tina now concentrates her time in the studio, editing all our clients' images, designing beautiful albums and ordering professional lab prints, an area that she is passionate about and which perfectly suits her previous interior design skills.
Keeping everything in-house in this way also means we don’t keep our couples waiting longer than they should to see the wonderful picture story of their wedding. We also let you know the date when your photos will be ready to view so you don't have to chase us for an update and we pride ourselves on presenting them on time.
If you want to talk about dresses and make-up then Tina's the one to have a chat with and if you want to talk about anything else, then myself or Tina are here at hand to answer any questions you may have.
Larry
Larry is our incredibly skilled IT geek.
As well as helping us design and constantly improve our website he keeps our systems ticking over nice and smoothly so that everything works tickety-boo.
When Larry is not working with us he is an accomplished full-time artist, exhibiting his eye-catching work in the UK and around the world.
We can't say anymore though or show his face, he's a bit of a Banksy.
